Monitoring Noise Pollution Across Pune During Ganesh Utsav 2025: An Initiative by Gokhale Institute Students
As Pune celebrated the vibrant and culturally rich Ganesh Utsav 2025, a group of dedicated students from Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, in collaboration with the Nisarg Srishti Welfare Foundation, undertook a meaningful initiative to monitor rising noise pollution levels across the city.
Recognizing the environmental impact of high-decibel celebrations, the students systematically measured noise levels at various key locations during the festive season. Using sound level meters, they recorded data from popular mandals, public processions, and densely populated areas known for their high festive activity.
The initiative aimed not only to gather real-time data on noise pollution but also to raise public awareness about its harmful effects on health, especially among the elderly, children, and animals. The team also engaged with local citizens and mandal organizers, advocating for more eco-friendly and sound-conscious celebrations.
This effort highlights the role of youth and academic institutions in addressing pressing environmental challenges. By combining research with grassroots awareness, the project serves as a step toward promoting a more sustainable and responsible celebration culture in Pune.
Our Story
The Foundation's dedication to environmental advocacy further manifested through a dynamic competition addressing the pressing issue of noise pollution. Over 100 enthusiastic students enthusiastically participated, showcasing their creativity and concern for the environment. The competition served as a platform for young minds to express their perspectives on noise pollution and propose innovative solutions. Acknowledging their commendable efforts, the Foundation awarded first, second, and third prizes, accompanied by thoughtful gifts and certificates, to deserving winners. This recognition not only celebrates their achievements but also serves as an encouragement to continue their endeavors in championing environmental stewardship.
